Surprise

I think our journey in life can be related to a very well set our garden. There are different sections that have different styles and different purposes and each section is usually reached by going through some sort of gate and entry way. When we walk into the new section we are often surprised at how the garden can be completely different to the previous section. Life can be like that sometimes we are surprised by how each phase of our lives is completely different.

For instance we are children, teenagers, young adults, parents of young children, parents of teenagers, parents of young adults, children of aging parents, orphans; maybe we become invalids ourselves and aging parents. Each stage has a different feel about it, a different flavour which is added to our lives and each stage is entered at a particular point in our lives. Once we have moved through the gates of life we cannot turn back, we must move forward to the final gate at the bottom of the garden. It’s that final gate that will hold the greatest surprise for all of us.

There are somethings though in the here and now that should not surprise me though. We live in a fallen world and there are always going to be things that will go wrong. We cannot see, just cannot see what might be waiting for us on the other side. We will need to open that gate and step through it in faith, oh how I wish that was as easy to do as to say.

Looking at the people in the Bible where God asked them to walk through different gates and not look back, Abraham, Moses, Saul, David and Paul to just name a few.

If He is asked us to move forward in faith then He will go with us but we should not be amazed when we are surprised. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” Psalm 37:23
