Old Plus New

I have a pretty jug that I decided to use recently. However when I cleaned it, I heard that annoying sound that told me that it had cracked. I picked it up, turned it around and eventually found the cracks. Some of the cracks were along the pattern so they were hard to see at first. My instinct was to throw it out. It was no longer any good as a jug. After all that is what is was made for, if it cannot be used as a jug, it is useless. Right! Well, maybe not. As I looked again at it I saw that it was still pretty, it hadn’t broken into a heap of pieces, sure it would no longer be able to hold water but it could hold something. So I recycled my jug.

As I was thinking about what to do with the jug, it also occurred to me that we as human being are also cracked. We have all sinned; we are no longer the people that God created back in the Garden of Eden. Yes, some of our crakes may be hard to see by those around us but God can see them all. Yet, just as I love the jug, so God loves us more. Regardless of how broken we are or feel, He can still use us to bring glory to His name and we can still worship Him by doing what we can, working with what we have and carrying out those duties to the best of our abilities.

My jug now brings a new perfume into our house, it’s full of Lavender, and it doesn’t need to hold water, it just holds the lavender stalks. When we allow God to use us in whatever way He wants, we will bring a new fragrance into our world. No, we may not be doing what we were originally planned for but we are still loved and cared for by our Lord and Saviour.
