Just Checking
Early one morning as I checked the clock to see what time it was I realised that we are always checking things. We watch the weather report or the sky to check on the weather, we check out Facebook to see what our friends are doing, we listen to the news to see what is happening around the world. Checking is not a bad thing it’s just that sometimes what we are told is not always entirely truthful.
We not only do this checking to learn what has happened but to try and work out what might happen in the future. If there are certain clouds in the sky, we try to work out if there is just rain coming or if they mean there is an approaching storm, a barking dog alerts us to be prepared for something or someone that could be approaching. Sometimes what we think might be going to happen may not be as bad as we thought and sometimes doesn’t happen at all. As humans are so very good at getting things wrong, aren’t we?
We only have to read our Bibles to see how the people who lived while Jesus was here on earth also got so many things mixed up and I’m afraid we are not so very different to them.
“For there is no partiality with God.” Romans 2:11
The Bible is full of God’s word and if we listen to what He has to say, we will hear lots of warnings about our lives and the future but in this case it is all true. So we need to check out our Bibles every day to find out where we have gone wrong in the past, how we can fix it now and what our future holds.
Just like the weather man, many people can try and tell us what might happen and yet only God knows for sure how things are really going to play out. We cannot see the future and because we are human we can read things the wrong way. How many times have we looked at the dark clouds in the sky and thought we were going to get rain and none has fallen or looked for a storm that has never arrived?
What God wants us to do is check out what is wrong with us here and now and trust Him for the future and when He is ready He will reveal everything that we need to know and if it is worse than we thought, He will be there to help us through it. If it is better than we predicted, then we need to thank Him for His blessings.
