What Good are They?
The mosquitoes swarmed around the bathroom and each time I moved something I disturbed another cloud of them, sending them spinning into the air. I inwardly complained to God about these nasty creatures to the point where I even suggested that God might not have created
them or that they had been converted from having some good purpose into evil creatures of mass annoyance.
Out came the bug spray and effectively disposed of most of them, leaving their dead bodies all over the white surfaces of my bathroom. The next morning as I cleaned up their scattered remains I was again wondering how I could be thankful for such animals.
As I turned on the water, God nudged me, this many mosquitoes means that somewhere there is water. They cannot breed or live without it, so even though your paddocks are dry and the grass is dying there is water somewhere. Just like some of my good gifts, they are not always visible to you in the here and now. They are around you but you cannot always see them, I could be storing them up for a future blessing.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for not seeing your blessings even in the nasty things around me.
