Remembering God’s Grace
As another anniversary of my mother’s death comes around, my thoughts turn to Mother’s Day and other anniversaries. What do we really celebrate? On Mother's Day we celebrate the mother that God gave us. Not, what we are, or are not, as mother’s ourselves. It doesn’t matter if our mothers were good, bad, awful, with us for a long time or a short time. God used them to bring us into the world. Yes, I understand that we may have very bad memories that surface on such a day. That is also normal and human.
What we need to do, on such occasions, is to hand them to Him. He had a plan for us and this was the way that He wanted us to come into the world. No matter how we got to the point we are now, He wants us to know that He loves us with a greater love than any human can. He had a reason for making us the way He did and while we many never know what those reasons are we should trust Him, as hard as that is to do.
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalm 139:14.
All the celebrations that we partake in such as; Easter, Christmas and Communion have a purpose. They are to remind us that God sent His son, Jesus to die for us and restore our relationship with God.
Our own celebrations, such as birthdays, wedding anniversaries, Mother’s and Father’s Day, we also need to give them the same purpose, pointing us to the grace of God in our lives.
So, as the 4th September, comes around again this year and in the years to come I want to remember that God gave me a special mother for the distinct purpose of making me who I am and praise Him for that.
