It’s a Messy World

I decided to clean a dirty wall. The mess could only be seen when you closed the door. For some weeks, it had been shouting at me every time I shut the door. As I scrubbed and wiped a voice in my head kept telling me that this job was really pointless. I would be the only person who would notice the difference.

Yet, there was another voice that kept interrupting the first one. It kept trying to remind me that it didn’t matter if no-one on earth noticed, God can see and would know the difference that my cleaning had made.

The voice also reminded me of the verse in Matthew 6:2 which says: “Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.”

This world is messy; it seems that there is so much cleaning that needs to be done. The small contributions that we make can appear to be insignificant. Not only do others not notice but it often appears that our hard work really hasn’t made much of a difference.

Yet, like that other voice in my head, we need to remember that God sees not only what we do but also the difference that we make. This should spur us on to keep going, to keep doing the smallest of good deeds that will make someone’s world a little better.

So, even if we can’t see the difference that we make, God wants us to carry on because He sees everything.
