No Power!

I woke up in the dark one winter morning, feeling cold, I tried to turn on the light to see what time it was and discovered that there was no power. That meant that there was no light and no working electric blanket. No wonder I felt cold!

I got up and stirred the fires so that at least we would be able to have a cuppa and a warm place to sit in front of the heater.

Later, at I reflected on how uncomfortable our lives are when the power is interrupted, I remembered that there is one source of power available to us that never goes out and is never interrupted.

That power is, of course, the power that comes from God. The Holy Spirit will always be available to us. However, there are times when we will feel cold. That is not because the power is not available to us but because we have pulled the plug out ourselves.

This happens at times when we have, for one reason or another, focused too much attention on another area of our lives. This might be family, work, or pleasure. These things are all very necessary in our lives and they deserve some attention but when they get too much we are disconnecting ourselves from our Lord and Saviour. The result is a cooling of our relationship with Him. If it goes on for too long we will find that we get cold spiritually just like I felt physically cold when my electric blanket failed to work due to a lack of power.

When we stay focused on what God wants us to do as a matter of priority, then the power that He pours into us will flow out again. It will light up the world and give off a warmth that will amaze all of those around us.

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” Ephesians 3:20.

Are you plugged into the power of God or have you pulled the plug?
